The Government of Ghana has recently embarked on a mission to improve the coordination and communication efforts of its various agencies. As part of this effort, the Information Services Department (ISD) has instituted an online Public Relations Management platform known as "Bonsu," which provides public relations support to Ministries, Departments, and other State Agencies.
Bonsu is a real-time information and reporting interface that allows all Public Relations Officers (PROs) to share their planned activities, enhancing effective planning and management of government communications by the Ministry of Information. This is to ensure uniformity and timely access to information on governmental issues.
The platform marks a significant step in the effort to harmonize government communication efforts. The platform ensures that PROs of various State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) can coordinate their activities and provide accurate and timely information to the public while increasing transparency and accountability in government activities and at the same time enhancing the public's trust in the government.
The Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in his address to management and staff of the ISD at the third government PROs Review Summit in Accra on Thursday, February 16, 2023 expressed his delight at how the platform is transforming the works of government PROs and lauded the ISD for making such a ground-breaking initiative.
He challenged PROs to create a positive awareness of not just government policies and activities but also the success stories of their respective organizations.
The Bonsu platform has also been hailed for its potential to bridge the gap between management and public relations professionals. This Mr. Oppong Nkrumah highlighted the disconnect that previously existed and pledged the needed support to ensure that the ISD is a better-coordinated public relations outfit of government.
