Study Abroad Programme
The K.O.N Study Abroad Programme is an initative by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, MP for Ofoase Ayirebi Constituency, aimed at providing students from the constituency with an opportunity to pursue academic and cultural experiences globally. This initiative is an additional layer to the K.O.N Scholarship and Bursary Programme.
Programme Objectives
- To mentor and train talented Ghanaian students in the process of applying to graduate schools abroad
- To connect mentees with opportunities for fully funded scholarships and internship opportunities
- To develop the next generation of globally competitive scholars and policy leaders commiKed to Ghana’s development
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be constituents of Ofoase-Ayirebi and currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited tertiary institution in Ghana (applicants from other constituencies in the Eastern Region may be considered).
- Applicants must have attained a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.4 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).
- Applicants must demonstrate strong academic potential, leadership ability and commitment to community service.
- Applicants must exhibit a clear research or professional interest aligned with national development goals.
Programme Components
Pre-Application Mentorship
Participants will be assisted in:
- Identifying schools in the United States of America (U.S.A) with full funding opportunities
- Writing compelling Statements of Purpose, Personal Statements and Motivation Letters
- Preparing Academic Curriculum Vitae (CVs) and Resume suitable for graduate school applications
- Cold emailing potential supervisors and networking effectively
- Requesting recommendation letters from their faculties in Ghana in support of the graduate school application.
Selection Process
- Shortlisting will be based on academic transcripts, leadership record and personal motivation.
- Interview and mentorship readiness assessment will be conducted by the Scholarship and Bursary team.
- Shortlisted applicants will undergo a final selection and confirmation screening for the programme.
Number of Awardees
Approximately three (3) to five (5) students will be selected annually, based on merit, need and alignment with the programme’s objectives.
Visa and Pre-Departure Guidance support
- F-1 student visa application
- Scheduling interview appointments and interview preparation
- Cultural orientation, travel logistics and settling into host universities
